About 50 students at Goldsmith’s university in south London, including members of Socialist Students, went into occupation of Deptford town hall, now part of Goldsmiths on 3-4 November.
They were protesting at the expected effects of the Browne Review as well as at the plans to introduce new sky-high fees. The Con-Dem backed review, which calls for an end to public funding for arts and humanities courses, will have a devastating impact on Goldsmiths which is a more arts-oriented part of the University of London.
Martin Powell-Davies of Lewisham National Union of Teachers and the NUT national executive brought along a message of support from teachers and the local Socialist Party branch.
